Extended Storage: Conditioning of
Capacitors
After an extended period of storage, recharge the capacitors in the SED2.
Calculate the storage time from the date of manufacture or the date code,
and not from the date of delivery. (See the Interpretation of Serial
Numbers and Date Codes section for more details.) The recharge
procedure varies according to the storage period as follows:

1 to 2 years Before issuing the “run” command, connect
the SED2 to input power for one hour.
1 hour
2 to 3 years Use a variable AC power source as follows:
Apply 25% of the input voltage for
30 minutes.
Increase the voltage to 50% for an
additional 30 minutes.
Increase the voltage to 75% for an
additional 30 minutes.
Increase the voltage to 100% for an
additional 30 minutes.
The SED2 is then ready for operation.
2 hours
3 or more
years
Use a variable AC power source as follows:
Apply 25% of the input voltage for
2 hours.
Increase the voltage to 50% for an
additional 2 hours.
Increase the voltage to 75% for an
additional 2 hours.
Increase the voltage to 100% for an
additional 2 hours.
The SED2 is then ready for operation.
8 hours
CAUTION:
After an extended period of storage, if capacitors are not
properly recharged, catastrophic damage to the drive can
result.
